2 Day Diet Top 70 Recipes With Diet Diary Workout Journal edition by Samantha Michaels Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks

This book starts out without any commentary, just jumping into some meal plans. I didn't like that it started out with a 500 calorie meal plan, even for "fasting" days that seems way too low, especially if you're exercising while doing it. This is one point where I think some commentary is needed, and eating something this low in calorie should only be done with nutritionist and/or Dr consultation. I also didn't like that part of these meal plans is the suggestion to eat processed TV dinners. With such low calories you should be eating food that is as nutrition packed as possible, adding in the processed food seems to be counterintuitive to what the meal plan should be accomplishing. I don't recommend any of the meal plans she suggests for 500 or 600 calorie limits.

Next she moves into breakfasts and there is some commentary here before she jumps into recipes. She starts out listing basic food items that aren't recipes, such as greek yogurt, fruit, boiled eggs, then suddenly she jumps into a recipe for pea smoothies. The formatting isn't very well done for this because everything runs together. There needs to either be bold facing or a font size difference to indicate these category headers and titles.

I thought it was strange that in the recipes they go back and forth between using cups and liters. It's inconsistent and for someone who uses one measurement over the other it's not a good editing practice.

As the meal suggestions go on it switches from actual recipes to more processed food suggestions. That does not make these recipes. I was expecting a collection of recipes in this book and having to weed out all the processed food suggestions makes it seem pointless. It also makes me wonder why she's suggesting organic ingredients only to turn around and suggest processed food that isn't organic is another inconsistency.

The planner at the end that is promised is not accessible in the eBook. It is shown there, but there is no way to download and print it, so ultimately it's just a bunch of useless pages to look at.

Overall I do not recommend this book. You can't access the planner in digital form for printing, there are too many suggestions for processed foods, and the recipes are in inconsistent measurements.

I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.

2 Day Diet Top 70 Recipes With Diet Diary Workout Journal edition by Samantha Michaels Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews

This book, The 17 Day Diet Bible The Ultimate Cheat Sheet and 50 Top Cycle 1 Recipes, was written by Samantha Michaels in a fairly concise and informative manner. The book begins with a table of contents, which does contain page numbers on which one can locate the beginning of each chapter and also, on the version of the book, each chapter of the book is written in a hyperlink fashion. This is done to enable the user to simply click the chapter they are interested in prior to being automatically directed to the first page of that chapter. I consider the hyperlinks to be a nice, easy method to flip to a certain chapter in this book. The table of contents is nicely set up for hyperlinks to the beginning of each chapter; however, I wish there were hyperlinks for specific recipes. The book then has a disclaimer and dedication, before delving into chapter 1, which contains a few 500 and 600 calorie meal plans. Chapters 2-5 describe recipes which are applicable to this diet. Each recipe has a title, short introduction, ingredient list (if applicable), specific quantities for each ingredient (if applicable), and directions (if applicable). Note that the “if applicable” statements indicate that some recipes are already made, such as Greek yogurt or fruit, so there is no need for these details. There are 8 breakfast recipes, 24 lunch recipes, 16 dinner recipes, and 22 diet friendly snack recipes. The recipes sound delicious and do not require a fair amount of ingredients and time to make. The book concludes with a diet diary and workout planner, which are excellent ways to keep track of dieting.

I enjoyed the lack of filler information in this book, the lack of grammatical or spelling errors, the vast array of recipes, and the taste of the recipes I have tried. My issues, and hence the reason for the 4-star review are due to the layout of the book and some of the “recipes”. The layout was a bit all over the place. One examples of this includes the lack of easily identifying a recipe. The recipes are all crammed together, do not usually begin at the top of each page (just thrown in the middle mostly), and have no color, font, boldness differentiation of the recipe title from the ingredient list and directions of each recipe. I also wasn’t a fan of some the recipe choices, as there was a lot of “fluff” recipes that weren’t really recipes, such as the aforementioned apple and yogurt cup for breakfast. I am not sure why such simple “recipes” were included in this book as a “recipe” when they are food items you simply buy at the store and eat, with no preparation. Beyond this, I enjoyed the diet plan of the book and would recommend it to those interested in delicious and healthy recipes at an affordable price (free!).
From the author bio "Samantha Michaels has spent years helping people overcome health challenges, lose weight and reach ideal health goals while enjoying good and healthy food. She is an author of numerous health books and provide amazing yet very healthy recipes everyone can enjoy". Aside from the fact that this sentence lacks basic understanding of grammar, nowhere does this author claim that she is a nutritionist. Which is great! Because if you're going on a diet, you should never trust anyone aside from a certified nutritionist (and preferably your nutritionist) anyways.

The book immediately launches into "500 Calorie Meal Plans on Fasting Days". First, if the author had known about basic principles of nutrition, it's that you never eat so little on any given day. Even for the most petite of women, the base amount of calories you should be consuming per day is around 1200. A range of 1000-1200 is safe if you intent to fast, but anything below that is dangerous (and long-term effects can include permanent organ damage). I realize that title says that this is a "2 Day Diet Bible", but it's not clear that the 500-calorie meals are only supposed to last a day or two. For all I know, it's a diet "bible" (AKA bulls***)that I could read in two days.

The author's focus is a low-calorie meals without actually paying attention to any of the nutritional aspects of the meals or considering vitamin intake. This is a very, very poorly thought out diet book. As someone who has recovered from an eating disorder, I highly discourage anyone from reading this book. This is not the correct way to diet (not a single word about exercise! Blasphemy!).

I was given this book for free to test out and review, and it wasn't even worth the $0.00 price tag.
